The biggest mistake we all make in conversation classes – and by us of course we mean ME, because I know you’d never do that – is to keep the session unstructured and aimless.
I used to show up to 30 – 45 minutes of my class and just talk about what comes to mind.
But after my teacher said “How are you?” and “How was your day?” and “How does it work?” exchanged, I don’t really know what else to say.
And neither do they, apparently. So in our awkwardness, my teacher will usually control by talking for the rest of the session, or by finding dusty exercises from the workbook to pass the time.

I used to be an actor, and the first thing an actor gets is a script. I memorize the words in the script in rehearsal, so that when I go on stage I can really start acting, improvising and flowing.
Although this may sound strange if you’ve never acted before, here’s the truth: Knowing a good script is actually what produces some of the most “natural” acting.

These conversations should not be “progressive” because they are difficult to discuss. I think they are more advanced because they are usually only discussed when you have a strong relationship with someone. And even then, they can’t even come into conversation.
For example, even if I talk to my closest friends daily or weekly, I don’t know their answers to all these questions. I have a feeling what they might say, but I don’t know exactly. And our relationship isn’t better, worse, or affected at all I don’t know. In the hierarchy of what scriptures to use and memorize, this should be the last one to focus on.
