Where To Learn Arabic Online – When the pandemic hit Jordan in March 2020, online sessions became Shababek’s only way to help people learn the Levantine Arabic dialect. We bought a laptop for each of our employees and conducted intensive training before the country went into quarantine. For two months we worked hard from home; All Arabic language sessions are conducted online. Our breeders quickly became masters of teaching Arabic to people from all over the world. Online learning has become our specialty.
At least I was skeptical. Although we have been providing advanced Arabic sessions via Zoom for years, many of our clients have moved to Jordan to improve their Arabic language skills. We didn’t really know how we could help beginners learn Arabic through distance learning.
Where To Learn Arabic Online
In April 2020, we tested our first group of beginners and were amazed at their ability to make progress in learning Arabic and develop a deep connection with the tutor who facilitated their session. Many have found success using an entirely online platform. When we started forming groups of new students from time zones around the world, we were in for something great. Now people can communicate with Arabic voice in Hawaii, Australia, Taiwan and Germany at the same time. During the pandemic, lemons turned into lemonade as we developed new strategies to facilitate online Arabic lessons.

I recently asked a client of ours who is learning Arabic online to answer a few questions. James, who lives in New York, says:
“In general, online learning is very effective for me. I work with non-profit organizations that help diaspora Arabs and other immigrants in the US. With so many responsibilities at this stage of life, I thought it was impossible to develop language skills. This seemed especially alarming in my diaspora, where several Arabic dialects are spoken in the same neighborhoods. To qualify, I needed to interact with a dialect, but I didn’t have the time or freedom to travel to the Middle East. Now I will be with Shababeek.
“When the pandemic was at its worst, I was tired of online dating. I expected my online language sessions to be less boring and less boring than my face-to-face, in-country sessions. I was worried about how exactly my growth and activity would be tracked. Can Shababek evaluate my growth and make adjustments like in the center? Can I have this relationship with my breeders? Are the online sessions too casual and lack depth, or do they seem too formal and empty due to the environment?
Online sessions help you fully simulate the immersive experience of Shababeek. I see myself visiting Jordan from afar every day. I can’t find any clear difference between how my breeders interact online and how they might be in person in Jordan. I was convinced of the quality of the online session when I found out that the executives stopped by from time to time to watch our sessions. In fact, you can grow at that rate by doing online training sessions.”

“Since I’m in the Eastern time zone, I can read ahead and learn the language around my work schedule. Staying in the Jordanian-Palestinian dialect adds authenticity to my accent. The immigrants we serve often ask me if I’m married to an Arab or if I’ve studied abroad a lot. When I communicate in my mother tongue, I am convinced that those who help me with their needs or difficulties can trust me.
Many immigrants who need help do not speak English and now I can make sure their needs are being met. Using Arabic also makes the process of breaking the ice between us a lot easier. We must do all we can to help immigrants. Speaking in Arabic instead of dictating in English respects newcomers and sets us apart from others who communicate with people from the diaspora.”
James’s experience of learning Arabic online at a distance is not unique. Even after returning to our facility to offer face-to-face sessions, more than 20% of our clients remain online only and receive daily, full-time Arabic lessons. Even many clients living in Jordan have decided to continue taking sessions via Zoom; Prefer online sessions in the comfort of your own home without having to go to work. Some clients (like Mark in the short video below) have traveled to Jordan or moved here after getting all our startups online. From the first day they arrived on earth, they were able to fully function, drive taxis and interact with people.
Whether you plan to one day live in the Arabic-speaking world, have Arabic-speaking friends or relatives, or work with refugees in a country outside the Middle East, you can start learning Arabic effectively wherever you are.
