Writing Prompts For 1st Graders

Writing Prompts For 1st Graders – I’ve had the cutest comments from teachers on our writing prompts, and I wanted to share some of our new springtime writing prompts for first graders. I like to write in spring. Everywhere you look there seems to be some kind of inspiration for a story. Color pops up everywhere, creating a natural work of art. The smells of fresh rain, spring blossoms and green things growing combine in a heady mix and the excitement of new life is present in the earth and animals.

These spring writing prompts focus on small bits of the joy of the season. Each set includes narrative, insightful, and opinion questions. The children can tell both real and imaginary stories and write down their feelings on topics relevant to them. To help them structure their thoughts, I’ve included a writing planner and outline page for each request. Once the kids have the basic information they want to write about in their organizer, they can start assembling the actual story or argument on their draft page. They can then use the included editing checklist to correct their work and then write their final draft.

The writing pages in my monthly math and literacy kits have been a huge hit with teachers and moms, so I decided to create a special set of first grade writing prompts for all of you. Seasonal work is so much fun, so I plan to bring you a set for each season. This first set is for winter.

This first set contains 18 writing prompt organizers, 18 design prompt pages, 2 blank design pages for kids writing a longer story, and a completion checklist for students. The intent of this kit is to help you guide your students and children through the entire writing process, from organizing their thoughts to writing and then editing their work. The design pages can be printed multiple times to make room for the 1st and 2nd design while the kids edit and improve their writing.

Aimed at Grade 1 CCSS, this set includes 6 opinion writing prompts, 6 narrative writing prompts and 6 information writing prompts. Children enjoy expressing their opinions on issues that concern them, telling stories and explaining their favorite things. Each organizer helps the child introduce their topic, list facts, reasons, or sequential parts of a story (first, next, last). , and then ends with a final sentence. To add to the fun, some of the tasks are fictional, but there’s a good mix of non-fiction too.

I hope you find these quick writing worksheets useful as they encourage imagination and creativity in your students and kids. If you have a favorite, let me know in the comments. Your feedback is appreciated and helpful as I try to create new teaching resources.
